BENEFITS & INSTRUCTIONS for two eared wire wheeled cars
Tired of damaging spinners, spokes, and hitting the car's body? There had to be a better way than beating on a spinner with a Hammer!
The kit fits two eared, 42 size spinners on MGs, Austin Healeys, Morgans, Triumphs, Lotus Elites and early wire wheel Cobras and many more cars that use this type spinners.
Short History: For some time now, I’ve not been able to make my original two eared tools. My machinist lost his home and shop and all of our equipment during the 2017 CA. fires. Everything was destroyed and it would have been too costly to rebuild and continue making any more of my tools. I tried several other versions, but fell short, until now.
My Final version: After having many starts and re-starts to replace my original two eared tools, the final tool is now in production. There will be no need to beat your spinners to death with a hammer anymore. I used a solid block of aluminum using CNC technology to create a one-piece tool with no moving parts. The tool’s design has a leather lined bridge. You simply hang the tool on the spinner’s ear that faces upward, push the tool flat on the other ear and turn. Attach my, included, socket to the hex shaft of the tool, then use your breaker bar or a torque wrench and apply force to tighten or loosen the spinner. Yes, it’s that easy and simple!
The Kits contains an Aluminum polished tool that is leather wrapped to protect any metal to metal contact, a plastic color insert, protect the face of the spinner, a 1 1⁄4” high impact socket with a 1⁄2" drive, the tool is engraved with UNDO directional arrows for both left and right side of the cars, a wheel chock to block the wheel from spinning on the floor during tire changes, and a black embossed knockoff storage bag
The tools are made using CNC technology
that eliminates the need to use a Hammer. The tool has both ear angles shapes milled into the side walls of the tool.
It also has a bridge to hang the tool on the ear of the spinner that is facing upward. Push the other ear into the tool and just turn to UNDO or tighten. The bridge keeps the tool from falling off while in use, freeing both hands to use a breaker bar or a torque wrench.
Torque Settings: In my Lotus Elan's printed manuals, it posts a torque setting of 200 to 220 ft/lbs of torque. All others only recommend using a lead hammer.
A local shop owner: who has always tightened his spinners with three good whacks with a hammer says three good whacks does it. We tested his 3 good whacks methods and he hit within 3 to 4 lbs of 210 each time. He said that using a breaker bar its added leverage caused the tire to spin on the floor and should block the wheel.
The standard removal method is to loosen the spinner with a hammer while the car is still on the ground, jack the car up, remove the spinner and tire, replace the wheel and figure tight the spinner, let the jack back down and tighten with a hammer. Others have said to roll the car a short distance to get a perfectly seated spinner the wheel. Other have said the spinners will self-tighten while driving, does, as long as you don't brake to soon before the spinner is fully tightened.
Chocking your wheels: For a much easier method, use a wheel chock by jacking the car up just enough so the wheel just turns, place a chock on one side of the tire to loosen and then move the chock to the other side of the tire to tighten. Always be pushing down on the breaker bar rather than pulling or lifting on the bar to really know the force used.
UNDO DIRECTIONS:
FIRST, follow the UNDO direction on the spinners.
UNDO right, turn clockwise towards the front of the car.
UNDO left, turn counterclockwise also to the front of the car.
TO TIGHTEN, Turn both sides of the car towards to the rear of the car.
Sizing your spinners
Questions on what size tool to order. For the 42mm size measured across the base of the spinner, not the ears, should be about 3 1⁄2" and for the larger 52mm Jaguar size is about 4". MM is not a metric measurement.
Storage for a knock off tool kits:
All kits come with a black leather like embossed KNOCKOFF SPINNER TOOL BAG.
As an option, an Aluminum carrying case, fits all the tool kits except for the Cobra GT40 tool kits.
As the size of the Cobra tools will not fit into the case. The case can be ADD TO CART with tool kit orders.
Not all spinners are made the same depending on who manufactured them, some have thicker sidewalls, slightly different ear angle and higher domes. My tool's design calculated all the manufacturer's different variations, for a perfect fit.
Your spinners don't have to look beat up. Keep them wrapped in leather without using a hammer!
