Cobra and GT40 Removal kits
without using a hammer
This is a new revised three-eared Halibrand type spinner tool kits.
The Cobra Kits comes as an aluminum CNC milled smooth finished tool, wrapped in black leather to protect all metal to metal contact, a 6 point 46mm CR-MO high impact socket with a 1/2" drive, a wheel chock to keep the tire from spinning on the floor, and a tool storage bag.
The tool has an engraved right and left directional UNDO arrows for use.
The tool has over hanging tips, that locks in the spinner's ears and keeps the tool from falling off while in use.
Benefits of the wheel chock. Jack the wheel up just enough so the tire will turn, place the chock on one-side of the tire to loosen and move it to the other-side of the tire to tighten, then let the jack down for a purfectly seated spinner to the wheel
The tool grips the ears further out below the beveled part of the spinner, protecting any tool contact to the wheel.
This new tool is taller and with its taller socket, you can reach into those deep set wheels and grip all three ears equally. It will clear the fender when using a breaker bar or torque wrench.
The biggest complaint I get is from Cobra & GT40 guys, who can't get over tightened spinners off. it is hard to get a good hammer swing in those deep set wheels.
Some have used up to 1,000 ft/lbs of force to break loose siezed spinners. When using a hammer, it places all that breaking force on one ear at a time, and can weaken and crack the metal and even break an ear off.
My Aluminum tool's hex shaft was tested to over 1,200 ft/lb of torque, and applies equal force to all three ear at one time, spreading the force evenly. Only use a torque wrench to tighten.
The only printed torque setting I’ve been able to find is in a Lotus Elan manual of 200 to 220 ft/lb. The Hub size of the Halibrand Hubs is about the same as the Lotus Hubs as far as a torque settings guide line.
Some threaded Hubs stick out way more than a standard wheel past a fully tightned spinner. My design has a 2" clearance depth to accommodate those long hubs.
Before you use this tool for the first time, try the following.
If you have recently used your standard hammer swing to tighten your spinners and used anti-seize on them, make a mark on both the wheel and the spinner. Loosen the spinner with my 3 eared tool and re-tighten with a torque wrench using a setting of 200 to 220 ft/lb of torque. Look to see how close the marks line up. It might need a little higher torque setting, based on your normal hammer swing.
If your spinners are seized, use my 3 eared tool to break them free. Then re-tighten using your hammer the way you normally do. Then re-mark the wheel and spinner again. Loosen the spinner again with my tool, now use a torque wrench to tighten to 200 to 220 ft/lb to see where the new marks line up.
My Kit contains a 46mm CR-MO high impact sockets with its !/2" drive and is designed to handle up to 350 ft/lbs of a standard twisting force with a quality breaker bar.
To remove seized spinners that need over 350 to 1,000 ft/lbs of force to remove them, I now offer an option of a 46mm impact socket with a 3/4" drive.

Pictured is a good 40", 3/4" drive breaker bar that can loosen up to 1,300 of nut busting force.

This embossed storage bag comes with the wire wheel tool kits that are not using an aluminum case.
I suggest using a quality 50 to 250 lb/ft, torque wrench, that is ratcheted, reversible, and will torque on both sides of the car. Some don't, even if they say is reversible and ratcheted. Don't ask how I know.
Remember to take the tension off the toque wrench for storage.
